Why communities with diverse cultures
Crimestoppers' strategic intention is to shift from a universal appeal to a focused approach where we engage targeted communities using the right media, with the appropriate message and style in the way that best connects with them.
Communities with diverse cultures in the UK suffer disproportionately from the effects of crime and many in those communities do not have full confidence in the law enforcement agencies. Crimestoppers has resolved to engage with minority communities directly in order to better achieve its mission, which is to provide a means to detect, reduce and prevent crime through the provision of information about crimes and criminals to the law enforcement agencies from anonymous sources.
The charity acknowledges the sensitivities involved, which arise from the interplay between the possible contradictions. As a policy, Crimestoppers only focuses on the crime and the criminal - not the ethnicity, religion, or any other characteristic of the community where the crimes occur. However, the Crimestoppers concept works best when the call to action is based on crimes that are of immediate concern to the local community.
