Michael joined the charity as Chief Executive in August 2003.

Michael Laurie CBE - Crimestoppers Chief ExecutiveIn this role he is responsible for the development and direction of the charity, according to the strategy set out by the Trustees. To do this he leads our strategic and business planning ensuring that every member of the organisation understands their role and tasks. All of this in done in consultation with our Trustees and our volunteers to ensure we meet our objectives.

Michael was previously Major General at the Ministry of Defence, responsible for all Defence Intelligence collection operations, intelligence units and future strategy. Michael's military career began training at Sandhurst before being commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1969. Michael served as a Military Engineer in the Gulf, Belize and, in Northern Ireland as an infantry officer. A transfer took him to the Intelligence Corps where he focused mainly on counter terrorist operations. In 1994 he was appointed as Director Intelligence Corps, the Army's professional intelligence head, in the rank of Brigadier. Following an appointment on the operations staff in the Ministry of Defence he was promoted to Major General in 2001.
