Our partnership with all the police forces in the UK is vital. Where else would we send all the anonymous information we receive?

The partnership between police and the charity underpins the Crimestoppers service. The charity provides the 0800 555 111 service to take information about crime anonymously from callers. After we've taken the information, this enables the police to access a unique intelligence set, which directly increases crime detection rates. Police forces provide resources to manage this intelligence, from developing the information to making an arrest. They ensure that the information given to Crimestoppers is used to the best effect and delivers police key objectives in crime detection.

Although we work very closely with all police forces Crimestoppers is an independent charity. This enables us to keep our underlying concept of anonymity for all our callers. We are even able to give our callers rewards without compromising anonymity. It is recognised that some people do not trust the police and will not talk to them whatever the circumstances. Crimestoppers, as a charity, gives them another option.

The Association of Chief Police Officers and the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland guide how police forces use Crimestoppers' information. This provides our charity with a strategic voice within the governance of UK policing.
