Crimestoppers Christmas drink driving campaign
Each year, Guernsey Police, in partnership with the Guernsey drug and alcohol department, initiate an anti-drink driving campaign.
In 2007, Crimestoppers featured heavily in this initiative. Through media coverage and selected distribution of posters, beer mats etc, we encouraged the community to give information anonymously to Crimestoppers. We wanted them to tell Crimestoppers about anyone who they knew who drives under the influence of alcohol and intoxicants.
We also worked with Cable and Wireless and Wave Telecom - they sent a text message to every mobile phone customer on the Island of Guernsey, emphasising the “ don't drink and drive message” and encouraging them to ring the anonymous Crimestoppers' 0800 555 111 number, with information about anyone believed to be committing the offence.
We believe that working with our local telecom suppliers is an innovative way to enforce the Crimestoppers message.
