Jersey Crimestoppers marks end of another successful year
30 January 2012: Jersey Crimestoppers has marked the end of another successful year with many triumphs including a case study that saw calls to Crimestoppers resulting in the closing down of a ‘cannabis factory’. An individual was found guilty and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the Royal Court of Jersey for ‘Producing and Cultivating a Controlled Substance’, along with’ Intent to Supply’.
Peter Allman, Jersey Crimestoppers, commented: “During 2011, Jersey Crimestoppers received over 200 calls from concerned members of the public. Whilst over 90% of calls assist the local police in helping to solve various types of crime in Jersey, it is very rewarding that calls to Crimestoppers revealed the location of a ‘cannabis factory’, where over 40 plants were found.  This case demonstrates the value that Crimestoppers adds and how members of the public can play an important role in preventing and solving crime in Jersey”.

Public play an important role

This case demonstrates the value that Crimestoppers adds and how members of the public can play an important role in preventing and solving crime in Jersey”.

Chief Inspector Chris Beechey, of the States of Jersey Police added “The success of this case was due to information received anonymously by Crimestoppers and the resulting intelligence led-policing.

We would like to thank the individuals that called on this occasion and encourage the Jersey public to continue to call Jersey Crimestoppers, with any information about all types of crime in Jersey, if they wish to remain anonymous”.

During 2011, the volunteer committee have organised a number of campaigns to continue to highlight the Crimestoppers service in Jersey – the only charity dedicated to help solving crime.

Promotional activity included a ‘Super Hero’ themed campaign to reassure the public that they do not have to reveal their identities and a drink drive campaign over the festive season.

Jersey Crimestoppers would like to acknowledge the support of their sponsor, NatWest, without whose support continued promotional activity would not be possible.
