More than 200 arrests last year

We had more than 200 arrests in Nottinghamshire last year as a result of the information received by Crimestoppers. We're hoping to top that in 2008!

In 2007, anonymous callers in Nottinghamshire have provided information which has led to:

  • 130 people being charged with drug trafficking offences, which has led to drugs valued at over £937,400 being taken off the streets in 2007
  • 10 drink drivers have lost their licences
  • 2 people have lost their freedom, having being involved in indecency offences
  • 2 people brought into justice for serious assaults
  • 3 people have been charged with burglary
  • 7 people have been charged with thefts
  • Over £340,000 worth of stolen property has been recovered
  • 7 people have provided information which has supported arrests for murder and attempted murder

All this has come from 2,086 anonymous phone calls to Crimestoppers and a lot of good work by Nottinghamshire Police to develop the anonymous information into good intelligence to support arrests. Every 8 calls to Crimestoppers about crime in Nottinghamshire leads to 1 arrest. The national average is 1 arrest per 13 phone calls to Crimestoppers.

Sarah Smithurst, the Crimestoppers co-ordinator for Nottinghamshire Police said, “This is a really good result by any standards and one which has organised for more than 200 people to fear the consequences of actually committing crimes. We've had some very good quality calls and it is that combined with some excellent groundwork by the police that has made a big difference.”
