Crimestoppers offer reward of up to £1,000 for information on robbery in Huntingdon
Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charge of the person or persons responsible for the robbery of a man in Huntingdon [17 January 2012]
The victim, 23, was walking to work at 4.15am on Thursday 1 December along the path from Buttsgrove Way to Coneygear Road, Huntingdon.
A group of men approached, kicked and punched him and stole his wallet and mobile.
The man suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital as a precaution, but was later discharged.
One of the men in the group had a mountain bike with him, they were all wearing dark clothing and one is described as wearing a woollen hat with a black and white scarf around his neck and face.
Someone in the area at the time distracted the robbers by shouting 'stop' to the group, which resulted in the victim being able to run away.
Unprovoked attack
Eastern Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, Ann Scott, said: “This was an unprovoked attack that has left a young man severely shaken up as a result of his ordeal.
“I would urge anyone with information on this incident to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our secure online Giving Information Form. All we want is what you know, not who you are. You have nothing to fear by contacting Crimestoppers. We never ask for your name or take any personal details. We do not trace your call or IP address and we do not record our calls. You will also not have to give a statement to Police or go to court”.
DC Rachael Ryan, investigating, said: "We're keen to trace a member of the public who was in the area and shouted 'stop' to the group which allowed the victim to run away. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen this group. We have increased patrols in the area and I'm keen to gather any information that could help us bring the offenders to justice."
Anyone with information should contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our anonymous online Giving Information Form. Rewards cannot be claimed for information that comes through our website.
