Young people in Peterborough fearless against crime

Young people in Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire were urged to become fearless in the fight against crime at the launch of a new service for the Eastern Region by national charity Crimestoppers.

The event, which was supported by the Safer Peterborough Partnership, was held at the Voyager School, Walton, and featured interactive sessions by Crimestoppers and The Solomon Theatre Company about Fearless.

Only way to pass on information about crime anonymously

Fearless.org was launched nationally in April 2010 and is a new website where young people can get information about crimes that affect them. It also provides young people with a secure and anonymous route through which to pass on information about crime. Crimestoppers and Fearless are the ONLY way to give information about crime 100 per cent anonymously – no calls are traced or recorded and callers do not have to go to court.

So many young people have died because of crime and it doesn’t have to be like that. By using Fearless they can get advice and pass on information about crime 100% anonymously which could save one of their friend’s lives.”

Information is taken seriously

Ann Scott, Eastern Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, said: “The day was a huge success with 1000 pupils, teachers and outside agencies watching the interactive play and learning more about how Crimestoppers can help their community. If even one young person felt empowered enough to give information about crime through www.fearless.org then the day has been worth it. We want to reassure young people that information they give us about crime is taken seriously; everyday 21 people are arrested as a result of information given to Crimestoppers which proves our service is effective in fighting crime.”
