Campaigns

Isle of Man Crimestoppers regularly runs campaigns on the island, to raise awareness about crimes that might be affecting your communities.

Animated Television Commercial

In 2007, EDL Design devised a creative awareness-raising television campaign on behalf of Crimestoppers.

"Our research showed that many people still do not realise that Crimestoppers is not part of the police service and that by ringing the 0800 555 1111 number, callers details remain totally anonymous," explained Richard Irwin, Client Services Director, EDL Design. "TV is the most effective communication tool for raising awareness and is the most appropriate medium to communicate Crimestoppers important anonymity message."

The animated commercial, which enlisted the famous fictional character, The Invisible Man, to drive home the point of anonymity, began airing on 6th June 2007 in a prime time slot at the 19.30 end break of Emmerdale, just before Coronation Street.

In the commercial, The Invisible Man was the hero who reported a car theft using the anonymous Crimestoppers phone number, 0800 555 111. His true identity was never revealed. EDL Design Creative Consultant, Adrian Bell, has considerable animation experience, having previously been a key animator on the popular TV cartoon series, Dangermouse. He said, "This was a particularly challenging brief because of the seriousness and complexity of the message. Our solution was to take an approach that will appeal to family viewers throughout the North West."

The campaign ran for 6 weeks using a combination of 30-second and 10-second spots. The Invisible Man commercials aired on ITVs Borders and Granada networks, giving it broad exposure across the UK North-West.
