'I see. I hear. I feel.' Poem by Julie Facey, Crimestoppers Community Champion

Read a poem written by Crimestoppers Community Champion, Julie Facey, about the world she finds herself in today.

I see. I hear. I feel.

Young I was unafraid to speak;
Marbles and hop-scotch and hide 'n' seek.
Girls and boys coming out to meet;
We never, ever feared the street.

Roaming around so boisterous and brass;
As long as we were having a laug.h
Neighbours called out, "Move on!" Or they'd tell;
Knowing my mother, she would have given us hell.

Now I am older, what has changed?
I don't know as I am fazed.
Children dying out on the streets;
Shooting, stabbing, drugged and deceased.

I see the horror,
I feel the pain,
I hear the cries,
Who's there to gain?

We can sit and name for hours,
But who will save these kids of ours?
It's hard to watch our children fall,
I need some help, I am asking you all.

Mothers of all, nations unite,
Now it's time we stand and fight.
Fathers I know you want a role;
For you it's time to take control.

Musicians I call on all you too,
Sure wouldn't mind a piece from you.
I know your lyrics to you sound tough,
But out there on the streets is rough.

There's a lot of angry kids out there,
We need to show them we really do care.
Give them a chance and you will see,
That these young children just want to be.

For they are talented, they are smart;
This is coming straight from the heart.
Put them in the right direction;
But please, show them no rejection.
