Clamping down on underage drinkers in Antrim

[7th February 2008]

A Home Office initiative to tackle underage drinking in public areas will be rolled out in Antrim, starting from Friday 8th February.

Planned to last for three weekends to cover the half-term week too, police will be confiscating and destroying alcohol from under-age people found drinking in public.

To help them, police will be piloting Rapid Alcohol Screening Tests, that can instantly detect alcohol in any bottle. This will help to identify alcohol 'hidden' in soft drink bottles.
