Scottish National Conference on crime prevention to be held

East Renfrewshire is set to host a Scottish National Conference examining crime prevention in communities [7 February 2012].

The conference, titled: Crime Prevention - at a local level, is being hosted by East Renfrewshire Crime Prevention Panel.

Widely recognised policing and crime experts will be speaking at the event including the Head of the Violence Reduction Unit, Detective Chief Superintendent John Carnochan and Former Director General of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, Graeme Pearson MSP.

Jon Bannister, senior lecturer in Urban Studies at Glasgow University and lead on the Crime and Communities Network within The Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, will be speaking. The keynote address will be given by Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Minister for Community Safety & Legal Affairs On  the importance of local collaboration in deterring and solving crime.

Scotland Crimestoppers Manager, Kate Jackson will be available at a question and answer session at the event.

  • Time: 10am - 3pm
  • Venue: Carmichael Hall, Eastwood Park, Giffnock, East Renfrewshire G46 6UG
  • Price: £25 with a discounted price of £10 for third sector representatives.

Crime Prevention Panels have a key role to play in keeping Scottish communities safe, and throughout the day there will be a range of high profile speakers on the importance of community dialogue in promoting early intervention and crime prevention.
