Borough by Borough

We are always trying to find better and more relevant ways in Surrey to promote our telephone number 0800 555 111 where anyone can give information about crime anonymously.

Bus advertising in Woking BoroughOur Borough by Borough Campaign is a new initiative for Surrey Crimestoppers. Our aim is to concentrate our efforts in one Borough at a time and develop better relationships with our partners. We want to put across our generic message and have designed bus shelter advertising, bus advertising and local borough poster site advertising. We want to work with our partners identifying any crime specific areas we could work together with. The first Borough we selected was Woking Borough as we have done very little work in this Borough in the past.

As part of our Borough by Borough initiative our Give Crime the Boot campaign was launched in Woking Borough. We consulted with Woking Police and the Council who are our main partners in the Borough of Woking to try and assess the best way to promote our number effectively and to satisfy some of their needs. At the request of Woking Borough Council we emphasised bike crime in Woking Town Centre. We approached Woking Football Club who put our message and number in their programmes and displayed our banners at their matches. We approached Evans Cycles in Woking who helped with the leaflets we used for the bike crime message. We also consulted with all the 9 Police Neighbourhoods and literature, posters, calling cards were sent out to all the Neighbourhood Officers to distribute to communities that would benefit from the Crimestoppers service of anonymity. We spoke to Residents Associations and Neighbourhood Watch and sent posters, leaflets and articles for their use. We visited the local Mosque and spoke to their leaders about Surrey Crimestoppers. We engaged with local businesses speaking at the Town Centre Management Forum and Woking Chamber of Commerce.

Council poster site advert in Woking BoroughWe have had a very positive reception whenever we have approached anyone and will review our success in promoting the number at the end of the summer. Meanwhile we are starting to engage with new Boroughs to continue our mission to visit every Borough in Surrey in the same manner learning from and repeating our successes. Watch this space we may be in your area very soon……
