Underage drinking launch - Tadworth
Don't fuel crime and anti-social behaviour in your community by buying alcohol for or selling alcohol to under 18s, or allowing others to do so.
Underage drinking and issues of youth disorder are known to be closely linked. In a bid to tackle these problems, we worked closely with Surrey Police and with them launched the first part of a major campaign during a Partnership Action Day in Tadworth. We gave local residents the opportunity to talk to several agencies concerned with the safety and welfare of their local community, information leaflets and posters were distributed across Banstead, Redhill and Tadworth putting across the campaign message and promoting the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 number.
The overall campaign, supported by Legal & General and Surrey County Council Local Committee (Reigate and Banstead), targets not just young people but all members of the community.
PS Nicola Clark, Community Safety Sergeant for Reigate and Banstead Borough said “We are all affected by the consequences of underage drinking. We see evidence on our streets through vandalism, graffiti and violence and it is up to us all to take action against it. Not only are those who buy alcohol for or sell it to under 18s perpetuating the problem of alcohol-related disorder, but they are committing an offence and will be prosecuted. If you know who the offenders are or have information about any crime or anti-social behaviour, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
During the year, the campaign will be taken into schools with a theatre company to work directly with young people themselves.
