Charity race day - A fitting tribute

As the sun shone down on Surrey Crimestoppers annual race day at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Wednesday 6th June, staff from the charity remembered their Chairman who died unexpectedly in April last year. The Michael Varah Memorial Stakes was the first race of the day, kindly sponsored by Sally Varah and family in memory of a man who worked so enthusiastically and tirelessly for us at Surrey Crimestoppers.

Other races were sponsored by Bespoke Financial Planning and GameReady, whilst several other organisations, including Absolute Security, Corporate Cleaning, Haywards and The Listening Company, took tables for entertaining clients and staff.

Kevin Morris, Surrey Crimestoppers Chairman, said: "Our thoughts were very much with Michael Varah, who had been so looking forward to this year's race day. He saw it as an excellent opportunity to encourage support for our work, to raise much-needed funds and to promote the anonymous Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 number to a wide audience. The huge success of the day was a fitting tribute to a man who gave Surrey Crimestoppers so much. We are extremely grateful to all those who supported our event by sponsoring races, taking tables and donating raffle prizes. We were also delighted by the unexpected bonus of being handed a cheque from Ladbrokes for £750, raised from a raffle held in their local betting shops and on the day at the course."
