Crimestoppers survey in Totnes

We did a random street survey at the end of last year to find out how much the general public knew about Crimestoppers.

128 people completed the questionnaire.

• 50% of respondents thought that Crimestoppers was part of the police, when in fact, we are an independent charity
• 63% of under-20s had not heard of Crimestoppers before. Only 5% of under-20s would know how to contact Crimestoppers
• Only 5% of over-50s had not heard of Crimestoppers
• The majority of respondents of all ages knew that Crimestoppers is anonymous
• Most respondents would prefer to contact Crimestoppers by telephone, although a higher percentage (26%) of under-20s would prefer to contact Crimestoppers online
