Recognition for Crimestoppers Charity Volunteer 2011

Congratulations go to John Cripps, who was highly commended in a national Crimestoppers competition for the crime-fighting charity’s Volunteer Award 2011 [19 December 2011]

Announced at the Crimestoppers Rewarding Partnerships event held in the BT Tower, London, John’s hard work and support for the charity in Gloucestershire was highlighted and praised.

John was a founding member of the Gloucestershire Crimestoppers committee, and has been and continues to be, an active leader and foot soldier for the charity since 1995.

John has held a number of positions on the Gloucestershire Crimestoppers committee, including two years as Deputy Chairman and three years as Chairman.

John has been crucial in the development and growth of the results achieved. Since its inception in 1995, Gloucestershire Crimestoppers has received over 14,580 pieces of actionable information which has resulted in 1,166 offenders being arrested and charged.

In addition, over £515,000 worth of stolen property has been recovered and over £370,000 worth of drugs has been recovered.

Now retired, John’s previous roles as Managing Director, Company Secretary and Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, provided him with a wealth of experience in building relationships vital to the continued success of the charity.

One example is how he sponsored many of the newsletters and mailings and sent out copies to the entire business community in the county free of charge.

Over five years in his role as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the committee he was able to network and encourage support from the business community, thus saving the committee an enormous amount of money and raising the profile of the charity in the county.

Julia Richardson, Crimestoppers Co-ordinator said: “For the committee to have had such a safe pair of motivated, capable hands from the outset is a huge advantage, and one of the reasons it continues to flourish today. Gloucestershire Crimestoppers owes a great deal of thanks to John, and his national recognition is well deserved."
