Bristol Water fights bogus callers

Do you know who the bogus callers are?Bristol Water has joined with West Country Crimestoppers to launch an appeal for information about bogus callers and to offer a £4,000 reward.

Have you or anyone in your family ever been targeted by bogus callers? Also known as ‘distraction burglars’,  bogus callers turn up on your doorstep and aim to get into your home, distract you and steal your money or valuables.

Bristol Water is stepping up the fight against conmen who pose as Bristol Water representatives, either on the doorstep or on the telephone.

Do you know who is committing criminal acts while posing as Bristol Water representatives? You can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 at any time to give information about crime and criminals anonymously.

Crimestoppers never ask for your name or trace your call.

Reward

Bristol Water is offering a £4,000 cash reward to the first person who gives information to Crimestoppers which leads to the arrest and conviction of anybody committing a criminal act while posing as a Bristol Water representative.

The cash reward will be paid via the independent charity Crimestoppers in such a way as to protect the recipient’s identity.

Advice

Bristol Water spokesman Jeremy Williams said: “These heartless criminals prey on the elderly in particular and we want to do all we can to try to stop them.

“Our advice to customers is to be on your guard and never let anyone inside until you have checked his or her ID card carefully.”
