Know Someone With A Knife?
Crimestoppers has set up a text service for young people to pass on information anonymously if they know someone who is carrying a knife.
Are you concerned about knife crime? The independent charity Crimestoppers aims to reduce knife crime committed by and against young people in the UK.
One in five 16-year-old boys admitted to attacking someone with a knife, intending to cause serious harm (Youth Justice Board/Mori Survey).
Crimestoppers has launched a text service for young people to give information about knife crime anonymously.
Details about the new service from Crimestoppers have been sent to schools, colleges and youth organisations in Bristol.
Text service for knife crime
Young people can now report details of a person with a knife to Crimestoppers by texting 88551 with four pieces of information:
- The name or nickname of the person with a knife.
- The school or college they go to.
- The year they are in.
- The area or postcode.
Crimestoppers passes on that information anonymously to the police.
The mobile phone number is automatically scrambled and the text can’t be traced and can’t be replied to. Young people are reminded to delete the text from their mobile phone sent items.
Text messages to the 88551 number are sent via servers in Canada and then Texas, so Crimestoppers receives only the message sent and nothing else.
Other crimes
The texting service is just for knife crime. If you have information on any crime you can speak anonymously to one of our trained call handlers on 0800 555 111 or give information anonymously via this website using our secure online form.
