Crimestoppers campaign to hunt ten of the UK’s most wanted fraudsters includes Cardiff carer

We have launched a campaign to locate ten of the most wanted fraudsters in the UK, who between them are believed to be responsible for more than £200 million worth of fraud. [2 August 2011]

The ten Most Wanted fraudsters

The list includes a female carer who is believed to have conned an elderly patient out of thousands of pounds in Cardiff.

Jascent Nakawunde, 33, is wanted for questioning in connection with a £35,000 fraud that occurred in the Welsh capital between 2007 & 2008.

She was employed in a position of trust as a live-in carer for an elderly and vulnerable lady in her eighties and during this time she is accused of stealing cheques from this individual that were subsequently paid into false accounts in the London area.

Uses the alias Tania Bird

Nakawunde is known to have strong links and previous addresses in London, although she has previously traveled to other parts of the United Kingdom with her work. Nakawunde has also been known to use the alias Tania Bird.

The national campaign has been launched following reports earlier this year that fraud cost the UK an estimated £38 billion in 2010.

"Callous and heartless" crimes

Chairman of Crimestoppers’ Wales Committee, Stuart Taylor, added: “The alleged crimes committed by Nakawunde have been both callous and heartless.

“I urge anyone who knows of her whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible.”
