MBE for former Wales Crimestoppers Chairman

The former Chairman of Wales/Cymru Crimestoppers, Terry Flynn, has been awarded an MBE in the 2012 New Year Honours List. Terry will receive the accolade for Services to the Community in Cardiff and Crime Prevention in Wales [5 January 2011.

Terry, who has volunteered with Crimestoppers for the last ten years, became Chair of the Wales committee in 2006, though Terry has been donating his time as a volunteer in the community for over 30 years.

Terry, from Cyncoed, Cardiff, continues to volunteer for Crimestoppers today. Terry said: “The role has been satisfying as it produced tangible results that we can see.

“It is a registered charity – which a lot of people don’t realise. Police come back to us as a result of our work."

Terry originally helped set up a small community group in Caerphilly as a volunteer, based in a village hall, before chairing what was then the Cardiff East Crime Prevention Panel.

Changing things for the better

Terry said: "“I was very pleased to find out about the award. I didn’t think things like that happened to ordinary people like me.

“When you do volunteer work, you don’t do it for a reward, you want to change things for the better – and I’m proud if I’ve been able to help agencies to reduce crime in Wales.”

Crimestoppers' Deputy Chief Executive, Dave Cording said: "I’m delighted to hear that Terry’s hard work has been recognised with this award.

"As someone who’s known Terry for a number of years I’m fully aware of his dedication to tackling crime in Wales and helping to make communities in the region safer.”
