Primary Schools join fight against crime

West Midlands Crimestoppers recently launched a new children's campaign to help reduce crime in Birmingham, thanks to the generous support of Legal and General Insurance.

Me Myself and Eye in West Midlands‘Me, Myself and Eye', a specially created initiative aimed at 8 and 9 year old children offers safe options for children if faced with difficult decisions around crime.

Local school children have helped in the launch of the new initiative by designing a special presentation to school teachers around the city explaining how contacting Crimestoppers can help reduce crime.

Pauline Hadley, Regional Manager from Crimestoppers said: “Sometimes people may know who is causing problems in their community but do not wish to talk to the police. They can call Crimestoppers anonymously and know they are helping to make their area a more pleasant and safe place to be.

Gerry Hickey, Head of St Patricks School in Ladywood said: “St Patricks were proud to host the launch of the new Crimestoppers initiative. We wish to help children to become confident and to know the positive courses of action they can take if faced with difficult decisions."

Sarah Caines from Legal and General, funders of the national initiative said: ”This new programme for children aims to offer them choices about what to do if they see or find out about someone involved in criminal activities. It is important they understand how easy and safe it is to call Crimestoppers and this is something that Legal and General are keen to support.”

Since the launch, over 500 packs have been sent to local schools and Legal and General are keen to continue their support of Crimestoppers.
