Save a life, who's got the knife

Yorkshire and Humber Crimestoppers are distributing Crimestoppers' knife crime business cards to 140,000 school children throughout West Yorkshire.

Yorkshire and Humber Crimestoppers - Reducing knife crime campaignThe aim is to identify if there are individuals in the community who carry knives or weapons. By contacting Crimestoppers anonymously, either by calling 0800 555 111 or by filling out our anonymous online Giving Information Form, and telling us who actually carries a weapon, it will enable the police to take the necessary action against these dangerous individuals.

The campaign is also about raising awareness and encouraging youths to discuss knife culture both at school and with parents. Individuals who carry knives for protection usually end up becoming a victim, by having the knife taken from them and then being used against them. Incidents of knife attacks always hit the media headlines and cause thousands of people to become concerned. Crimestoppers, in partnership with the police, are now attempting to address this issue.

DC Kevin Mosley of Regional Crimestoppers, who is promoting the scheme, said, “If we can reduce the number of knives and the number of people who think it's normal to carry knives, we may save lives, as the card states. The message is clear - by giving youths another option, other than ringing the police, we may prevent a serious injury or death. Do not think about making the call just do it - lines are open 24/7.”

For further enquiries/interviews, contact Kevin Molsey, Regional Crimestoppers by calling 01924 292 525 or 07765 230 765.
