Crimestoppers guest writer: Professor Peter Squires
Crimestoppers' guest writer this month is Peter Squires - Professor of Criminology and Public Policy at the University of Brighton and expert on gun crime
A continuing problem in tackling gun crime in Britain has been the reluctance of victims to report it and for witnesses to come forward. Professor Squires looks at the facts surrounding gun crime, assesses new research throwing light on gang cultures and suggests how the crime can be tackled at its roots.

Crimestoppers' 20th Anniversary
2008 marks an important milestone for Crimestoppers which was established twenty years ago in the UK.
Since 1988, the charity has developed as a vital piece in the crime-fighting jigsaw, working in partnership with the police and other law enforcement agencies in helping to get serious criminals brought to justice. We are proud of achievements which have included an operational HQ for 24-hour call-handling in Godstone and the hugely popular ‘Most Wanted' website.
We hope to have an even greater impact on crime-solving over the next twenty years.
