Jordan Murphy*, Young person

14-year old Jordan Murphy goes to a local youth group where he learns about rap and music. He finds it a positive way to express his anger. He's tired of all the gangs in his area causing trouble and making people scared. Now that he's learned about Crimestoppers, he thinks he might be able to help reduce crime on his local estates.

“People are dying for the sake of £2.50. The people killing and hurting people in my area are like animals – they don't care about anyone.

"There aren't really different gangs on my estate, but it's like each estate is a different gang. So if you go onto a different estate, then the people from that estate will give you trouble.

"Sometimes me and my mates go to a different estate just because we're bored – we don't get to mix with anyone outside our estate very much. But on the other estates it's like gang wars – they don't like seeing us there. Normally they get the younger ones to do their dirty work for them – beating up outsiders and taking their money.

"And sometimes people from other estates come to our estate too. I got robbed by four guys once for my money – I didn't recognise them so they must have been from a different estate.

"If I went to the police about crime, my friends would probably find out and then they wouldn't speak to me. I'd definitely call Crimestoppers because it's anonymous. Also, my mate's brother called Crimestoppers once about something that happened on our estate and this drug dealer got arrested. So I know it's worth calling.”
