Home Secretary to announce more terror police
Jacqui Smith will announce that an additional 300 police will be put to fighting terrorism - news which has been welcomed by the Association of Chief Police Officers. (16 April 2008)
Smith said the jobs would include new roles - such as training others, identifying people at risk of radicalisation, working with colleges, prisons and schools and making links to mosques.
The news comes as the government is trying to convince Parliament to increase the limit on holding terror suspects without charge to 42 days.
