£5.3million e-crime unit to get go-ahead

A new centralised e-crime unit is close to getting the funding required to make it a reality.
Detective Superintendent Charlie McMurdie of the Metropolitan Police has said that the new unit is crucial, seeing as a lot of traditional crime has moved online.
All 43 police forces currently deal with e-crime, or cybercrime, separately. However, it is estimated that half of all e-crime goes unreported. Furthermore, half of those incidents that are reported are often not taken seriously and cybercriminals do not receive substantial sentences.
