Online brothels raided

[21st April 2008]

Fifteen people have been arrested in an operation targeting brothels in central London that are operating over the internet.

Police officers searched 19 premises and the fifteen people who were arrested are believed to be part of a criminal network who are involved in both prostitution and human trafficking.

The criminals apparently traffick women from abroad, mostly from Thailand, then force them into working as prostitutes in the UK. It's believed that the criminals have been using an online escort agency as a front for organising the prostitution.

Police hope to rescue up to 60 foreign women who had been trafficked into the UK.
