Recorded crime down 12 per cent

Recorded crime in England and Wales fell by 12% in the last three months of the year, compared to the same period in 2006.

However, the Home Office figures show that drug offences rose by 20% and firearm offences were up by 4%, to a total of 9,967 incidents. However, the actual deaths from gun-crime were fewer.

The figures also show a fall in recorded robberies by 21%, serious violence dropped by 15% and car crime was down by 19%.
