Violence against children doubles

Violence against children and babies has more than doubled in the last year in England and Wales.

The study by Cardiff University found that 8,067 under-10s were hurt in 2007, compared to 3,805 in 2006. This is despite the fact that violence against people of other age groups fell by 12% and incidents of violence overall have been falling for the last eight years.

Researchers stated the majority of these injuries could be a result of domestic incidents or violence between children.
