Shooters may have fled in car
Detectives investigating the shooting of a teenager in a pub car park have said his attackers may have used a car to flee the scene. [25 April 2012]
Malakai McKenzie, 19, died after he was shot outside The Hubb pub in Hucknall Road, Sherwood at around 3.30am on Saturday morning.
The Nottingham man was taken by members of the public to Queen's Medical Centre with serious injuries. He died later on Saturday afternoon.
A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded he died from a gunshot wound, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Mr McKenzie's death is being linked to reports of a firearm being discharged outside the Hubb.
Officers have been trawling CCTV footage and now believe those responsible for the teenager's death left the scene in a car which drove up Hucknall Road and turned into Perry Road.
Warrants were executed at two addresses in the city yesterday morning as part of the inquiry, a force spokeswoman said.
No arrests have yet been made.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Heydon, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: "We know The Hubb was a busy venue on Friday night into Saturday morning with a party ongoing inside.
"There are still people who left without giving their details to the police or telling us what they know. I would urge them for the sake of Malakai's family to come forward and help us find whoever did this to their loved one.
"We also believe a number of people left The Hubb in taxis and I would ask any of those cab drivers to think back to whether they saw anything or whether anyone spoke to them about what had happened, especially between 3.30am and 3.35am.
"We are pleased with the response to appeals for information and are continuing to follow up a number of enquiries. We are still urging anyone with information to contact us. What they know could be the missing piece of the jigsaw."
