Child hostage in armed siege

A six-year old girl has been held hostage in a North Yorkshire house for a second night in a row, with a man believed to be armed with knives.
The man, who is in his 30s, barricaded himself in a residential property in Scarborough on Monday night. Police negotiators are in the house, trying to talk to the man who is in the bedroom with the girl. A number of police and a paramedic team are positioned outside the house.
