Immigrant police cells 'squalid'

A police custody suite where immigration detainees are held should be closed because it's 'unhygienic and unsafe'.
The Inspectorate of Prisons examined the custody units in a Southwark detention suite and found that the problem was 'acute'. The report found that all cells were dirty, showers were not adequately cleaned, there was limited access to showers and toilet paper, and staff did not routinely carry ligature knives or keys. It was, however, found that detainees received good support to prevent substance misuse and self-harm.
