London riots: 888 people arrested over disorder

A total of 888 people have been arrested over violence, disorder and looting in London, and 371 charged have been charged [11 August 2011]

Up to 16,000 officers were on duty across the capital on Wednesday night.

Two boys aged 17 and an 18 year old man were arrested over an arson attack which left the Sony warehouse in Enfield destroyed on Monday night.

Two other boys aged 17 were arrested over looting in Sloane Square and Pimlico, also on Monday night.

A 26 year old man was found shot in the head in a car in Croydon, south London. Police believe Trevor Ellis and his friends were involved in an altercation with another group, resulting in a chase involving three cars. Mr Ellis was shot during the chase.

Police have also released CCTV images of a man they would like to trace in connection with an attack on a 68-year-old man in Springbridge Road in Ealing, west London, on Monday night.

The victim is in hospital in critical condition and police are trying to trace his family.

Det Ch Insp John McFarlane asked the suspect to "do the decent thing and give yourself up".
