Derbyshire cable theft

Train services in Derbyshire have been disrupted after thieves tried to steal trackside cable on a railway.

Signalling equipment was damaged near Alfreton, which led to several services being cancelled.

In 2007, there were 30 separate incidents of cable theft, or attempts at stealing cables. This resulted in 32,000 minutes of delayed trains and £1million in compensation to train operators.
