Parents given power over sex criminals

Parents may be given new powers whereby they can check if people who have access to their children have paedophile convictions.
The scheme will be trialled in some regions of the UK; if they are successful they could be rolled out across England and Wales.
Parents will be able to ask police if a named individual, such as a carer or even a new partner, who has unsupervised access to a child, has any child sex convictions.
