Appeal for information after swans found killed in park

Police are appealing for information after six swans were brutally killed in a city park in Derbyshire [24 February 2012].

The attack, which police say was certainly the work of people and not animals, occurred in Alvaston Park in Derby.

It is reported that the birds were 'killed for meat.'

The swans had been discovered dead by park rangers.

Derbyshire Police are said to have increased patrols of the area and are appealing for anyone who has information to contact them.

PC Andy Sudbury of Derbyshire Police said that local residents were "horrified" by the incident.
