New island jail

[24th April 2008]

A new multi-million pound jail has been officially opened on the Isle of Man, as the old island jail is now too small for the demand.

The new Jurby facility, which cost £41.7million to build, replaces the old prison in Douglas, which was built in 1891.

Prisoners are due to be transferred to the new jail later in the year.
