CCTV prize website delay
A website that planned to offer members of the public cash prizes of up to £1,000 for monitoring CCTV footage has had its launch delayed. [29 January 2010]
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) stopped the company, Internet Eyes, from properly operating until it is sure the site meets data protection laws.
Internet Eyes
Internet Eyes had planned to stream live CCTV footage from cameras in shops and businesses, to the home computers of subscribers. Some campaigners have opposed the company's plans, saying that it is distasteful to ask people to spy on each other.
Internet Eyes has said it will follow any guidelines the ICO sets out for them.
