Armed robbers used stolen plates in raid

Police investigating an armed robbery at a Hampshire bank are urging anyone who has had their number plates stolen to come forward [12 January 2012]

Two masked robbers armed with a sledge hammer and an angle grinder held up security guards delivering cash to a bank in Farnborough on Monday at 22:00 GMT.

One of the two Group 4 Security workers was assaulted at the Santander branch in Eastmead.

Detectives think that the masked robbers may have used stolen licence plates on their getaway vehicle and escaped with a "quantity of cash".

The car, described as a white Vauxhall collided with a white Audi as it left the scene.

Det Supt Karen Lillywhite of Hampshire Constabulary said: "I am really keen to hear from anyone who has had number plates stolen or has found that their plates have been tampered with."

Detectives are also appealing to the driver of the Audi to contact them.
