Man 'saves 12-year-old Leeds girl from abduction'

A man is thought to have prevented the abduction of a 12-year-old girl in Leeds [11 January 2012]

Detectives at West Yorkshire Police have no description of a man who intervened when another man tried to pull the girl into a car on Acre Road, Middleton, at 14:30 GMT on Monday.

Police want to trace the man who stepped in to help the girl.

The abduction attempt is being linked to similar incidents in Leeds and Ossett. A 30-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody.

Det Insp Mark Waine said: "The actions of this man were commendable and we believe information he could provide us with would assist the investigation and I would ask him to get in touch.

"We are currently examining the circumstances surrounding other similar incidents that took place yesterday in the Middleton, Ossett and Rothwell areas.

"As part of that investigation I would ask anyone, particularly lone females, that may have been approached by a male in a silver-coloured vehicle during recent weeks to get in touch with us."

The 30-year-old man, who is from Heckmondwike, was arrested in the Acre Road area. He is being questioned by detectives.
