Rural crime: £26,000 theft from Cumbrian shed

More than £26,000 worth of equipment has been stolen from a shed in Cumbria [6 January 2012]

The theft happened between 28 and 29 December, when an agricultural shed in a field off the A595 between Carlisle and Cockermouth was broken into.

The nine stolen items included a yellow five-tonne Komatsu digger, an Ivor Williams trailer and a Husqvarna chainsaw.

“Due to the size of the items that were stolen it is very likely that there will have been more than one offender and they will have needed a vehicle to transport the stolen goods away from the scene. We also suspect that they will have used the stolen trailer to store and transport the other items.

“I imagine this will have taken some time so, although it was in an isolated area, there may well be witnesses out there who saw a large vehicle visiting the scene a week ago today.
