Fewer than a third of foreign criminals deported

Only 308 foreign criminals out of more than 1,000 released two years ago have been deported.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke was sacked in 2006 after he released 1,023 foreign criminals who should have been considered for deportation. Less than a third have been deported and 105 are still on the run. Many of the criminals apparently went on to commit further crimes, including rape and murder. So far this year, the UK Border Agency has removed 2,400 foreign prisoners, which is 22% more than last year.
