Male nurse abused 23 women

[17 July 2008]

A male nurse in London preyed on vulnerable patients over a 20-year period, manipulating them into sexual relationships.

David Britten, 54, was a former manager at the Peter Dally Clinic in Pimlico. He was dismissed from the clinic in 2002 for unrelated issues. Since then, patients have made claims of his sexual misconduct. The NHS launched an inquiry in 2006 to look into how he escaped being detected. The subsequent report has blamed poor management, missed opportunities and the reluctance of victims to come forward. Mr Britten was an expert in eating disorders and is thought to have preyed on the fact that his victims would be 'compliant and eager to please'. Mr Britten is thought to have been living in northern France since the allegations, and has not faced charges due to insufficient evidence.
