One in five teenagers carry a weapon

Nineteen per cent of 14 and 15-year olds admitted to carrying a weapon in the last year, according to a Southampton survey.

The study found that 60% carried a weapon for protection, while only 20 of the 1,426 questioned carried a weapon with the intention to attack. A majority of 71% said they felt safer in school than out of school, and 5.1% carried weapons both inside and outside of school. However, Home Office figures released last week found that one in 16 young people carried weapons.
