Teachers should have more search powers

Teachers should be able to search pupils for drugs and alcohol, according to a new review on tackling bad behaviour among pupils.
The government-commissioned report by Sir Alan Steer says that teachers should have the legal power to search pupils and confiscate alcohol. At the moment, they only have the power to search for weapons. Sir Alan's report seeks to improve school discipline in general, and says that parents should be more involved in this. The reports suggests that text messages and emails could be used to make immediate contact with parents when schools have concerns about pupils' behaviour or if they're absent from school.
