Youth crime plan

[15 July 2008]

The government is set to unveil a youth crime action plan, which will include targeting the parents of children causing the most anti-social behaviour.

The Prime Minister has said that more than 110,000 problematic families will be targeted and up to 20,000 could be evicted from their homes if they do not control their children. So far, 90 families have completed the government scheme and results suggest improved parenting skills and school attendance. There is also likely to be increased investment in non-custodial sentences, which will include intensive fostering and community supervision of young offenders.
