Disabled man robbed twice in a week
A vulnerable man has been targeted by robbers twice in less than a week at his Manchester home. [6 July 2012]
The 56-year-old disabled man was first targeted on June 29 at his home in Bagnall Walk, Northenden.
At about 5.15pm he answered his front door and was confronted by three offenders who rushed inside, punched him in the chest and began searching the property, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
The victim managed to escape from the house and notify neighbours before the men made off with a quantity of cash.
The second incident occurred on July 4 when the disabled man was at home with a friend at about 9.40pm.
On this occasion a group of men smashed through a double glazed window using a spade and entered the property.
They stole cash, Euros and jewellery before escaping in a small five-door silver hatchback car that was parked on Lerfoot Close.
GMP believe that the two incidents are linked.
Detective Inspector Dave Turner, said: "To be targeted once is bad enough, but to twice be the victim of a terrifying raid in your own home in just a few days does not bear thinking about.
"He is understandably deeply upset by what has happened and we are working hard to identify the offenders.
"The victim has been able to provide good descriptions of some of the men, one of which was detailed enough to allow us to create a digital image and I would ask people to look closely at this image and see if it resembles anyone you know.
"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a small five-door silver hatchback in the area at the time of either offence.
There would have been several people, possibly four inside."
GMP said one offender was described as white, between 19 and 23-years-old, between 5ft 9in and 6ft tall, clean shaven, of medium build, with fair hair. Another is described as white, between 18 and 24-years-old, of slim build and with short black hair and about 5ft 11in tall. The third is described as white, 'lanky' and between 18 and 22-years-old.
