Arson death could have been caused by revenge gang
[25 June 2008]
Hameeda Belgum, 71, was killed by a house fire on Monday night.
She may have been targeted by arsonists after her husband, jeweller Chifhty Mumtaz, helped to jail members of one of Britain's most notorious gangs. In 2005 he spoke out to police after five robbers from the Gooch Close mob in Manchester raided his store. Firemen rescued the grandmother from the flames, but she died from her injuries. Her daughter and five-year-old graddaughter were also victims of the fire and are in serious conditions at the hospital. Mr Mumtaz was able to escape from the house.
