'Happy slapping' teenager prosecuted

[19th March 2008]

A 15-year old girl who filmed a man being kicked and punched to death has been sentenced to two years in jail.

The girl filmed two teenagers attacking Gavin Waterhouse, 29, who died of a ruptured spleen from the beating. She then sent the footage to friends' mobile phones and published it on the internet.

The Crown Prosecution Service believe this is the first time that a suspect has been prosecuted successfully for aiding and abetting murder by 'happy slapping'.
